Kast Acquires Key Assets From The Rabbit IP & Technology Stack
Kast announces a full commitment to ensure that the best elements of Rabbit, the departed watch party platform, will now live on in the Kast company roadmap
NEW YORK, JULY 31ST 2019 — Kast (https://www.kastapp.co), the online hangout platform for friends that want to play together, watch together, and be together, today announces that it has acquired Rabbit's soft intellectual property, including trademarks, copyright, and design rights. Kast has also acquired four Rabbit patents, several pending patents, and also the Rabbit software stack.
Kast empowers individuals to live-share experiences, engage, and build relationships with like-minded people. Rabbit was the industry’s dominant watch party solution, with over 3.5 million monthly viewers; Rabbit shut down operations and laid off its employees in May 2019.
"The entire team at Kast deeply admired and loved Rabbit as a product, and we followed the news of its shutdown with sadness, as did everyone else in this space," said Mark Ollila, co-founder and CEO, Kast. "Now, we can ensure that the best parts of Rabbit's innovative service can live on within Kast's company roadmap."
As Kast acquires the key components that made Rabbit so well-loved, its team fully commits to the following promise: the best elements of Rabbit will evolve and grow within the Kast ecosystem and become an essential part of the Kast community's online hangout experience. Additionally, Kast continues to develop its platform to empower watch parties, games parties, video chat, and everything else the online hangout community envisions. The next phase of the company’s journey now entails proactive listening and engagement with a fresh influx of enthusiasts moving to Kast.
"We look forward to working with the Rabbit community, listening to ideas, and engaging with every participant in this incredible, collaborative, and creative online space," said Justin Weissberg, co-founder and president, Kast. "Because our community of users loves their platforms — and because they are using them to have authentic experiences that are a part of their daily lives — bringing key Rabbit assets into the Kast roadmap allows us to respond to their best ideas even more effectively, moving forward.”
